Research Study

LGBTQ Youth Activism in Surrey, a Study of the Surrey Youth Alliance and its Members.

Dr Jen Marchbank (Simon Fraser University) and Ms Sylvie Traphan (Vice President, SYA) are conducting a research project about Surrey Youth Alliance. We are interested in exploring the activism of LGBTQ youth and your experiences at SYA. We aim to do this by interviewing respondents about their activities and thoughts about activism, such as attending Prides, performing at fundraisers and speaking at anti-homophobia workshops amongst other activities.

The outcome of this research will be better information for SYA development in the future. In addition, we will be using the data for academic papers and conference presentations. Anyone can participate, both current members and past members. If you are under 19 we will ask for parental consent to participate. If you are between 16-19 and live independently from parents it may be possible for you to consent for yourself. All participants will receive full details about the research. You are not obliged to participate and even if you choose to and then want to withdraw you can do so at any point.

To ensure anonymity and confidentiality we will ask people to choose a pseudonym and we promise that no information will be given out that identifies anyone.

So, if you would like to participate please either email Jen at jmarchba@sfu.ca or contact us through SYA.

Many thanks,

Jen and Sylvie
